What was the issue when you had that smell symptom?
Cleaning and checking if it comes back is a good idea. i did the same... at first i thought that mechanic spilled something and got it dirty... i even replaced my oil filler cap thinking that maybe was leaking. After checking , cleaning , replacing cap i finally went and got a new cover.
