My old man bought me and each of my brothers our own higher-end basic personal tool kits when we were young, and told us that we were on our own if we lost any of those tools. None of us *dared* to go into his toolbox or even touch his tools.
Over four decades later, I still have every one of those tools...except a 15/16" box wrench that is now rusting at the bottom of the Arthur Kill off of Staten Island.
I accidentally dropped it overboard from my boat in 1989, while doing an emergency propeller change after breaking a blade on some submerged garbage.
Just throwing this suggestion out for parents, to teach responsibility as well as encourage learning about things mechanical.....
