When I need to do some research about my E89's top, I look in the Bentley Manual for my wifes E93, 328IC. Both tops are about the same, and even share the same parts. I also found a document from BMWcoders.com. It outlines all the systems on the E89, including the top. The section in bmwcoders, about the hard top has drawings of all the circuits involved in the top. Enjoy the read, it's quite interesting. I hope it help you guys understand the top better.
