NO - I have a little one-button "opener". No matter what I did with that (hold it close to the mirror, far, behind, in front...etc) it would not respond.
I went into the garage, hit the learn button and then the #1 button on my mirror...and ...done! That easy, and done in about 15 seconds.
Not sure what you mean by the keypad (other than the wired one on the outside of my garage..?)
My problem was trying to figure out whether it was "fixed code" or "alternating code" (apparently it turned out to be the latter).
