You shouldn't, with the heat you need to get the pan for a good sear, you can actually get the teflon to breakdown into your food in all but the most high end cookwear..
Go to the sporting goods store like Academy or something that has an outdoor section and get a seasoned pan, only like $25..
However the all time best "Apartment" solution to cooking perfect steaks is this.. And before anyone laughs, I also have a 1000deg infrared grill as well, and this thing turns out steaks better than most of the people you know can make in about half the time..
