Don't need to -- there are certain inescapable characteristics of fours and turbo fours that BMW can't change. Manufacturers have been playing with the inline four cylinder turbo for years, with lots of variations (I have probably owned 6-7 of them, including one of my current vehicles). It's just not possible for that type of engine to compete with an inline six IMHO. The straight six is one of the few perfectly balanced engine configurations in existence.
