I wear Maui Jims and have the same problem and it drives me insane!
Why doesn't BMW rotate the darn screen 90 degrees so the monitor scanning is vertical instead of horizontal.
Sorry, had to vent about this.
BTW, if you tilt your head one way or the other you can see the HUD. Not ideal but it works.
