During my time in the detective office some of the old guys (look who's talking now) wore shoulder holsters. Mostly for comfort and it was the cool thing to do back in the day. They offer no security for the gun, it can easily be taken in a fight and when ever you draw the weapon you almost certainly will end up pointing it in an unsafe direction while acquiring your target.
