I personally like Uber. I fly to San Francisco a lot for work and my Uber fare to/from the office to the airport is generally half of what a taxi fare would be. Not to mention the cars have been nicer/cleaner in every case.

I believe that like most things it serves it's purpose under the right conditions. However, if you're trying to take a variable rate service like Uber at peak times, especially during a holiday like the claim in that article about paying $700 for a 9 mile ride ON HALLOWEEN, expect to be bent over.
