This is just a marketing announcement with no actual data to back up their claims. Of course BMW has the actual figures for each model, and BMW has added a number of product lines to the "M" family. Until BMW actually releases year-over-year numbers of each product line, as they've done in the past, it will be impossible to determine whether their claims are true, which is likely the point.

We on Bimmerpost can only go off anecdotal data, with those who work at dealers having quite a bit more insight than the rest of us, but not the full picture. If BMW truely were having a banner year exceeding sales records with their M3 and M4 models (seems impossible with all of the silicon shortages), they'd release the actual data to back up their claims. As they haven't, one can only assume the figures are down, rightly or wrongly. Personally, I've seen quite a few 3-series m-performance models, low single digit 4-series models, and a handful of the new M3 and M4s. Whether this means there are more or less than the prior gen, who knows.
