I've been doing some research. I have found the N20 engine (4 cyl) has one or two potential issues depending on the yr. It seems s28i built after Feb 2015 have all the fixes. The potential problems are 1) timing chain assembly failing causing extensive engine damage. 2) some N20 engines are equipped with plastic oil filter housings that were recalled and replaced with aluminum filter housings. I hate that BMW allows these deficiencies to plague their cars. Automotive technology is not new. IMO the problem is with upper management who are more interested in saving money on manufacturing that is lost to recalls, disgruntled customers, and loss of potential customers. It pisses me off these goons don't realize even if their cars cost 15% more because of premium parts, people with still buy them. And more people would buy 'em if they didn't have to read about issues like these. Anyway, search the internet for N20 timing chain service bulletin...or something like that. Also search re the plastic oil filter housing (which leaks.)
