I have a crack down the middle of my third brake light cover too. The dealer ordered one under warranty yesterday and it should be here Monday.
Hopefully it doesn't happen again. The service manager said they had the same problems with the Z4s at one point because the two outer screws were too tight from the factory, but once replaced - problem solved.
We'll see how it goes.
