One of my clips broke a while back. I took it in when I had the oil changed and they sad the warranty did not cover it because the way it was cracked in their opinion was the result of an impact of some type. They determined this by looking at the break in the plastic clip. The real problem of course is that these clips should be made of metal or fabricated a different way.
Realizing how ridiculous this sounded, the dealership contacted BMW and was able to arrange a "good will" fix on BMW's part. I also do not know why they do not sell the clip as a separate part.
This experience taught me that BMW's warranty in the US is not that great because they deny or limit claims for bogus reasons just like the 3rd party warranty companies. Then the burden falls on us to try to get them to make the right decision for which many just do not have the inclination or time.
