The N54 has VANOS but what it doesn't have a is Valvetronic technology. If in fact the N55 is less laggy it's due to that tek as it manages the air intake differently.
Either way, if they do change over to the N55, I hope BMW can figure out how to make a HPFP that doesn't fail as often.
