As far as I know the output of the N55 is the same as the N54, but max torque now comes on earlier, it is more fuel effecient, has VANOS, less parts and is a lighter total engine. I have also read it is slightly less laggy than the N54 but this is subjective. These are all great positives in my book. There are no negatives unless you are interesting in tuning which you will have to patiently wait for. But when tunes come out I have a suspicion the N55 will be able to outperform the N54 slightly in regards to power extraction.
