Anyone have experience with that weight in these cars? Been running 0w-40 in our 18 Merc with 2.0 with good results.
The approved oil is 5W-30, BMW Longlife-01. This is identified on oil packaging as BMW LL01. The easiest place to find it is at the dealer. Their prices aren't that far out of line.

Alternately, you can use 0W-40, 0W-30, or 5W-40 in place of the 5W-30. Below is a snip from the manual.

I personally just let the dealer do oil changes. They typically charge $99.00 for a change. When you factor in the cost of 7 qts of oil plus the filter, they're only charging you $25 or so for the labor. It's worth it to me. Plus they've been running a special for older vehicles. It's $199 prepaid for 2 years of oil changes. Since they use condition based or 12 months between changes, it works out even with low use, you get a least 3 changes for the price of 2.
