I only take advantage of it because I got "Grandfathered" in at my gym. I still get the same monthly rate as I did back in 1991 when I first joined at 16.
I have made some great friends/contacts through the years from the people who have stuck around. But I used to do it competitively, so it worked out best for me.

But I usually go around 3:30am-4:00am every morning. So I don't have to deal with a lot of the "newer" gym culture that has seemed to become so popular in the last 5 years or so.
