I don't go smooth in front, just put like a #2 on the electric shaver. I can't tell if it actually comes back thicker, or I just get used to not having as much fur and *think* it's thicker. Shoulders and back I have the wife help me with the electric shaver, since there are just sections I can't reach. I tend to do arms down to sleeve level, and from middle of shoulders back.
My niece waxed my back/shoulders once. I wish she lived closer and was still digging doing that for her uncles.
