Oddly low MPG of my z4 - New 2009 2010 BMW Z4

just 100 miles.
majorly local.
14mpg so far... (bmw website says 24 mpg on highway)

seems like extremely low compare to others (around 20 from this link:http://e89.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=320826)

is it because she's still in her "warm up stage" ?
or I'm not driving correctly ?

I'm not sure, I get average 19-21ish MPG on 35i. But I don't drive like a mad man either. maybe ask dealer what the hell is going on? 14 mpg is kinda low.

I have not been able to get mine below 17mpg during normal city driving. Did you do 100 miles as in 400 x 1/4 miles? Its indeed extremely low, but I have no idea if it is normal during the first 100 miles, which is essentially your question. 30mpg+ (US) is possible during longer trips if cruising at a constant 60-70mph, of course depending on wind conditions etc.

that's break-in... I had same during first tank of gas... it will jump up to normal after your next fill up...

I think you should get a lot better MPG as the engine gets run in. We get an average of 26mpg on a tank, mixed: town, back road and motorway driving. On a motorway run it's over 30mpg.

It could be the grade of fuel too. I know if i dont use 93 octane i dont get as good of gas mileage

I tried a 100miles roundtrip yesterday, mpg goes up to 22 now.

I'm also averaging about 14 MPG around the city right now; but I am having a lot of fun. Once I've gotten over the immense power at my fingertips, I'll probably not be so punchy with it. But man, the looks I get from other drivers is priceless.

The best I've been able to get on the highway was 27 mpg. Ok technically I hit 30 mpg one time, but that was down a long stretch of downhill highway right after refueling

I think this may be a situation where there were other factors involved based on the fact that the 35i isnt capable of getting that kind of milage without a boost from wind, terrain or otherwise. Maybe you had a tailwind? Even if so still suspect.

oh wait, i guess there is a reason, if you are in 6th gear and doing like 45 to 50 MPH maybe. But i would argue that is no fun unless you are on a coastal road watching not the road but the surf as it brushes up against the shore.

Just took my new (less then 500 miles) 35is to San Francisco from LA. Round trip was just over 700 miles and I averaged 26 MPG, using Comfort setting and averaging around 75 MPH. Around town in my 2011 35i M-Sport I averaged 20 but usually kept in in Sport+ mode. On the 35is I hope to average 18-20 around town in Sport and Sport + and I have a heavy right foot.

When i am on the highway I usually keep mine in Sport + and manual select 6th gear since the sport mode automatically eliminates top gear. This allowes me to save fuel when there is no need to get up and go but when i need to down kick it, the short shifting between gears allows me to punch it and get down the street.
