None, u can't mount anything on the roof or the trunk, it can damage the folding mechanism. Check the manual for more info

That is not exactly the truth concerning bike racks for the E89... There is even an oem part from BMW (but frankly speaking - are you REALLY sure you would like to spoil your car with this):

You wouldn't see it. Europeans do not tend to use the "receiver-style" hitches favored in the US. I strongly suspect the e89 hitch is pretty much like the e85 hitch was. That one is invisible unless you're under the car. The ball is on a long, cantilevered machined arm that hooks up under the rear bumper.

Problem solved. I'm going to make a fork mount rail rack using a thule rail and mount it to the trunk. On and off in 5 minutes.

In that case it can be quite useful

Another bike rack option

Take a look at this one...

http://www.birdautomotive.com/Bike%2...20BMW%20Z4.htm

Much cheaper than the one from BMW (but still not cheap) and almost invisible when not in use.

Those sucker things look very unsafe on road.

They are totally safe. each sucker has a 200lb capacity. They are nothing like the suction cups most people know, they are driven with a small integrated hand pump.

I've seen four bike versions. Totally stable and trustworthy.

As for rear mount racks, I'd never put my road racing bike on anything that hangs on the frame. They can damage the bike and the car. For me it's fork mount only.

Thanks for bringing this product to my attention... it may be the solution I was looking for as well!

BTW... Costco.com has some SeaSucker products in their catalog...

http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...=1&topnav=&s=1

Rather than buying one of SS Bike mount specific products... you might modify one of these to work with your rail system. Just an idea...

In any case... be sure to shoot us a pict of your solution!

Yeah that was my thought, to use a single Thule rail with two sets of two suckers, on the trunk. So the rail and rear wheel of the bike would be cantilevered over the trunk.

I heard that the bike rack will disable the hardtop going down into the truck.

I'd never put the top up or down with racks on the trunk...

I love the simplicity of this system.

On & off in 5 min... throw in your trunk when not in use... nothing left attached to the car... Man!, that's perfect.

Of course, if I installed a hitch mount... I could always get that airstream I've always wanted

Please post some pictures once installed!
