Rear Brake Lamp Malfuction Sign
Rear Brake Lamp Malfuction is sometimes turned on.
From what I have researched, it's mostly due to aftermarket wheels. Many E9x guys are seeing this sign as well and they went to stealership and response was just deleting the sign. Anybody experienced this with aftermarket wheels?

Maybe the E9x'er guys new wheels weren't round, causing excessive vibration, and failing the bulbs. Seriously there is no reason aftermarket wheels will affect the rear brake bulbs. The computer is merely sensing voltage/current/resistance @ the bulb. If the bulb is burned out or a poor connection it will cause the Brake Lamp warning to illuminate. Take it to the dealer and have them check the electrical connections.

Having the same problem but it is intermittent. I think I have a brake light bulb with a loose connection between the socket and the bulb.
I have taken the covers off in the trunk and am faced with a a couple of white plugs with wires running to them. I assume these are the bulb holders and just pull out as stated in the manual. Are there any tricks to this? How much pressure is required? Is it just a pull straight back with no twisting? Just being extra cautious as I do not want to break anything. |

How can wheels impact on brake lights!? Coincidence if anything. More likely faulty wiring or water ingress in lights.

The lights are LED's not like ordinary bulbs and more resilient to vibration. What you may not be aware is that the E89 has a very high failure rate on the rear light clusters, I had mine changed, why do you see so many on Ebay from a nearly new model???????
