E89 Production Hits 50K
From the Wochenblatt (Regensburg region) news - 6 Dec
After less than two years since its official launch, the BMW Z4 roadster E89 generation already passed the first major hurdle. Today, at the BMW plant in Regensburg, the 50,000th Z4 unit came off the production line. The anniversary model is a Crimson Red BMW Z4 sDrive23i and it will be shipped to a China-based customer. The second generation Z4 transitioned from the US plant in Spartanburg to the German werks in Regensburg. To produce the new vehicle, which beside the new design also comes for the first time with a hardtop, BMW invested around 130 million euros in the plant. In addition to the Z4, the BMW 3 Series Convertible E93 is also produced in Regensburg. ![]() The two-seater roadster is considered a global leader with its impressive 56 percent market share, but the upcoming Mercedes-Benz SLK might challenge that position. About a quarter of all cars sold remain in Germany which constitutes the largest single market for the roadster. About 16 percent of the E89-production went to the U.S. and another 11 percent to England. The emerging luxury market in China has a share of 11 percent. Japan and Italy come next with a market share of 7, respectively 6 percent. Dr. Andreas Wendt (Plant Manager): “The new BMW Z4 impresses customers and employees. The production of the vehicle because of the retractable roof aluminum is very demanding. The high quality we achieve, and strong demand from customers make us so proud. Our staff does an excellent job.”

50,000 units x 16% shipped to US so far = 8,000 units to the US
If only 8000 e89s have been shipped to the US since 2009. then the e89 remains a rare care here in the US. That explains why I haven't seen another one on the road in several weeks. During that span I've seen 251 Prius. |

Perhaps the US percentage includes Canada, if not there are a few up here in the cool North
will be rare indeed up here since our country is the second largest in the world Russia being the largest, hmmmm I wonder how many there are in Russia if any. Properly none since the once richest man in Russia is now in Jail ![]()
