This is concerning...wonder if there should be a poll for owners that use Shell's V-Power and have this limp mode/CEL occur?
I used to use Petro-Canada's 91 octane but it made that whinny noise (something to do w/ the LPFP?), so I switched to Esso's 91 octane (no idea what that translates into for other countries). No problems so far (knock on wood) and I have a 2011 35i also. |

Latest on this issue ...
Service Manager informed me that they put the car back together .. their readings improved .. but still at 90%. BMW told them to replace all injectors and they have to come from Germany. They should be here on Wednesday (03/20) or Thursday (03/21). I will post another update on Wednesday ... |

What is interesting is they had to put in 1L (i.e. 1qt) of gear oil into the DCT after fixing the leak. My understanding is that is ~25% of the oil capacity in the gearbox. Our engines alert us to add more oil when the car needs 1qt, or 14% (1qt / 7qt) of the engine oil capacity. What I am getting at is that if I was in your shoes, I would have a frank conversation with your service adviser and BMW NA about the fact that the leak while the car was under warranty resulted in the car being driven with 1qt less oil than full in the gearbox, and make sure that is fully documented in your vehicle history in case you have issues later. I hate to sound like I'm looking for a problem where there isn't one (knock on wood) but the DCT is such an expensive part you want to make sure to CYA |

I recommend all owners of older Z4 cars with the DCT transmission to have BMW check the DCT for leaks at least once every year.
You have to check for leaks visually. So a lift is needed. Make a search on the M3 forum to find other owners with similar problems. Mine developed leaking twice and both covers have now been replaced outside warranty. I also had the DCT oil flushed when they changed the second cover. Never did I see any error codes or overheat warnings, and the box worked as normal except for a tiny near inaudible ticking noise before each gear change when fully warmed up. This noise is now gone. Even if the box is leaking, it is very likely that BMW will not find it during normal oil changes and so on. You have to specifically ask them to check for it. Since mine started leaking from the second gasket after the first repair, I recommend that you have it checked again after a 1-2 months. Last edited by Asbjorn; 03-22-2013 at 05:57 AM.. |

In the 4 series reveal thread, you mentioned you'd go for a 435i

In congested traffic I could always feel a slight judder in D1, moving from rest. Each time I pulled forward, there was a wobble. It also did it in R. It took many visits to the dealer to demonstrate it but they eventually felt it themselves and BMW UK told them simply to replace the entire DCT so that they could examine my original DCT. So that's what happened. It wasn't a failed unit or problematic, but I'm a bit of a perfectionist and felt it shouldn't do it. Anyhow the new DCT is very smooth and the issue is gone.
