2009 or 2010

Is the Z4 going to come out as a 2009 or 2010 model? if 2009, wouldn't it be worth it to wait a couple of months for the 2010?

The first E89 Z4 will be delivered in the May/June 2009 timeframe. I don't think that BMW is planning any upgrade/fine-tuning for its MY2010 model that will come out less than six months after the initial release of the new model. It would seem to me like bad publicity. So, no I don't suggest you wait for the 2010 model.

However, if you are looking to save a year of depreciation then in that case the it seems like it's a good idea to wait for the 2010 model which will most probably be identical to the 2009 apart from possibly new color combos. It depends what you're after.

Cheers.

I thought the 2009 and 2010 were one of the same car. Basically the Z4 2010 actually comes out this year, hence the naming confusing. Am I wrong? Coming out with a revamp after only one year sounds pretty quick to me.

The new z4 is officially dubbed a "2010" model.

I think it's like the car of the year 2009 awards that are announced in January!!

I would guess that it would be released as a 2010 model even though it'll be out in May 09.

The main reasons for waiting I think would be to see what issues arise with the first batch of vehicles and if you wanted to snag a lightly used one to save on the initial depreciation. I don't think there'll be any changes between the models released this year and those that are still being sold when the model year changes.

You never know though, the M3 had new colours and iDrive etc within a year of being launched.

really, I see reports that call it the 2009 model. I'll check the bmw.com site to see what they call it. Seems like it would be a 2010 model that's available in May 2009.

BMW may well class the car as a 2010 model as it comes out in that fiscal year (i.e. FY '10 starts in 2009 and moves into 2010). I'm sure other car manufacturers do the same. Just a thought.

Either way, can ayone see BMW drastically upgrading the Z4 a year after its release aside from a few, minor tweaks such as extra colors, upgraded iDrive (this has only just been upgraded anyway), ironing out any mechanical glitches, etc.?

Maybe it'll depend on how many they sell this year...

Personally, I can't wait and have already put down my order. Fingers crossed it actually turns out to be an awesome car.

Yeah it's a 2010 model being released in May 2009. Yeah...

More pics... it really is impressive looking; Oh how I love the lines and every angle of this car; this may be a first for me for BMW although the E46 M3 looked awesome and I got on the waiting list and purchased before I even drove it.

Thanks for the link.

I really do love the blue but the Grey with red leather looks pretty awesome too.

Anyone know if the wheels on the blue car in the photos are the 19"? I'm guessing yes but not too sure.

18 standard on 35i model and the 19s are optional, so I assume from the looks, they are 19s.

The blue car on the LeftLaneNews site with the multi-spokes has 18's and the grey car has 19's.
