Automatic Locking

I just purchased a 2011 Z4 35is with comfort access and have a question about the locking features.
My dealer told me if I select "lock if no door is opened" and use automatic locking that it is possible to lock the key fob inadvertently in the vehicle. I Read it differently in the owners manual. What do people find in practice? Is automatic generally used and seen as a good feature?
Any input would be appreciated.

I haven't tried the auto locking feature but I can tell you that it is possible to lock the key fob in the vehicle. This happened to me at the airport once when I had my key in my carry on. I was able to open the hatch while outside the vehicle but once I put my carry on in the trunk and closed the hatch, it locked the vehicle and I had no way to re open it without a second key.

I would have tested it if i had a 2nd fob but I don't currently. I am waiting for it from the dealer. I will try once I get it.

Thanks

This may have something to do with the model year. I accidentally left a key fob in a bag in the trunk in my 2012 and the trunk just kept popping open again after I closed it.

Same here (2012 E89 with "comfort access"). I then tried ~ 20 different places for the key in the car, always same result.

Work-around: With "Connected Drive" & BMW App, you can open your car without key, just with your Android or Apple smartphone.

Best regards

I received my second fob and tested. You cannot lock it in the car.

I am only commenting on a 2011 Z4 35is with comfort access. I cannot speak to other cars with other options

My previous 09 E93 with comfort access option, I tried to place my key fob inside the trunk with all doors locked up, when I closed the trunk completely, the trunk will pop up after a second when the car sensed the key still inside the car.
But I tried the same trick on my current 11 35is with comfort access as well, the trunk wont be able to pop up and I have no way to open the door and trunk until I use the second key to unlock.
