Go to Walmart and pick the one with the most colorful box.

Or just light your $1k on fire.

I bought a 55" from Walmart called TCL.
55" 4K for $399.99. I was sceptical at first but i got it and it's a very good TV.

I have the 65" and it's spectacular. Very very happy with it.

Edit: Wait... no I don't. I have the 930D.

do your own research, what you want from a tv is going to be different from what others want - www.rtings.com

also, the 2015/2016 sony XBR's are horrible for HDR gaming - avoid at all costs if you plan to HDR game. the 2016 Samsung ks8000 is far better (a lot less input lag)

dam sony still in business? i remember i had a walkman and something about a trinitron. The higher end samsung and the lg oled is a no brainer nowadays. youll want a smart tv cause its basically standard even on some low end generic 4k panels.

I think the consensus is that if you're budget is $1K and you're only doing it because you want a larger screen, it's not even worth losing (spending) the money on a sub $1K LED TV. You'll find yourself very unhappy with and constantly comparing the picture quality of a cheap 65" TV vs. your 50" plasma. If it were me, I'd save my money and buy an OLED. The 55" ones are down to $2K now. I would much rather have better picture and 10 less inches of screen size than those extra 10" of screen that looks like crap. When my DLP finally ate it last year, I had to get a bedroom TV. Bought a cheap Samsung 50" LED. Worst decision ever, should've spent more on the same sized TV with better picture quality.

Here is some advise for buying a TV. Look at picture quality first, and this is not looking at a TV at the wall of TV in demo mode at Best Buy or similar.

Most places play a video which makes it very hard for people to tell picture quality. Many time they are showing some computer generate (CGI) images (like Star Wars) so the color are very hard to tell if the color are correct. Everyone know what the outdoors look like trees, grass, water, lakes and oceans. If you can get someone at the TV store to turn off all the TV you are not interested start there, then have them turn off the demo mode which means the brightness was turned way up and the colors are over saturated, these TV are like a bug to the bug light. Then have them put on some nature scene and then decide which has the better picture quality. See which one feel and looks more natural for you. The problem with some TV when they are in the bug catching mode people tend to like how it looks, but it hard to be a bug catcher and the natural color performing TV.

The next thing people seem to worry about is the Apps and Internet connect features. You are better getting a Roku or Apple TV since both of the these company support their product long term and update it over time. The TV guys do not update their software all that often. My Experience is the one with the better App interfaces usually have poor video quality.

If you look at TVs in the same way looking at the same video which uses a natural color image you will begin seeing there are large difference between the TV on the market.

Friday afternoon I started doing a side-by-side comparison between SONY's two flagship displays... Their best FALD LCD the XBR65Z9D and their new OLED the XBR65A1E. Both sell for $5495. Since I mostly watch sports I'd lean towards the Z9D but that OLED is very attractive at first glance! I need a few more hours of watching and tweaking to form a definitive opinion.

I like SONY XBR65X900E for a midrange display. It's a little over $2k but it's worth it IMO. Performs at least as good as their XBR65X930D (a much more expensive set) from last year. I consider it the "value Z9D" because it's SONY's other FALD LCD.

I have a 65" Sony 850C and every time I watch TV, I'm blown away at the quality. Buddy bought a top of the line Samsung around the same time, and after seeing mine, is now thinking of switching to Sony also. I bought the extended Fry's warranty.

OLED (left) can't match the LCD in brightness. Bright scenes are a struggle. (Both displays share the same settings) OLED isn't definitively a better technology than LCD. Pick what suits you.

Not sure why that person would believe full-screen brightness isn't a real-world issue. Any snow or ice sports fan would surely disagree, but this also plays a factor with any bright scene. Besides- I am pointing out a real-world example right here!
Articles like this is exactly why I do my own testing.

I had a Sony Trintron it was the best TV back then, Now I believe Samsung is and I dont think you can buy a new TV that's not a smart TV I think. I know there working on 8k TVs which doesnt make sense because there are not very many 4k channels

I have the LG Signature OLED and the XBR.

The XBR is a fantastic tv if you haven't seen the OLED LG produces.

Both excellent TVs. If budget allows, no question OLED all the way.
