Review: JP Carbon CF Mirror Cap Covers

Short version: Don't bother.

My wife bought me these for Christmas and out of the box they look great. Beautiful glossy genuine carbon fiber that looks like it'll fit great. They don't come with the trim tape pre-placed inside like others I've seen, but no big deal. The big deal is there's no way to get them in place and have them cover all of the old mirror cap. You'll always have gaps on one or more edges, and the bottom flares out too much to fit properly. With strong enough trim tape that would hold for a while, but don't count on it. The dimensions are off as if the mold they used was intended for a replacement mirror cap instead of for a product meant to go over the original cap. I tried fitting them directly to the mirror with the original cap removed and sure enough the overall size was better, but there's no way to attach them that way. The bottom still flares out too much and one of the sharp corners at the top of the mirror cap is too rounded on this item.

I'll be replacing these with 3M Scotchprint film sheet. I've used that before on my E46's interior trim and not only does it look great, but fitment is obviously not an issue since you trim it to fit yourself.

I would just recommend that you tell your wife you love them and then quietly fix the problem from there. The couch can be a very lonely place.

Too Bad. A set of these when manufactured for a OEM correct fit, look GREAT. Here are mine which are installed by taking off the OEM covers and installed the new CF covers with 3M tape. It did take me 2 sets from the manufacturer in CA, who I believe is no longer in business, to get them correct, so all was not easy.

Did you try preheating the caps to help fit better?

If anyone is interested, I have ones that are actual replacement mirror caps in carbon fiber for $120 shipped within the US only. Brand is TekCarbon. Originally purchased for $350 new. PM me if you want them.

I didn't put them in the oven or anything but I got them very warm to the touch anyway. I think the amount that they're off is far too much to let more heat make a difference

I had the same issue so what you do is take a heat gun, on low (hair dryer not hot enough) and fit the top and sides, then on the bottom heat about 2" back from the edge then as it gets hot, put the tape in place and wrap the entire assembly in painters tape overnight. they fit great.

I ended up buying the ones flpnout was selling and they're perfect. Complete replacement caps that look great. These covers got sent back for a refund.
