Question Scratches on Hood

Looks like someones keys got my front hoot, the scratches are showing white and i have a black car. Is there anyway to fix this without having to get the hood repainted, does a method even exist to get rid of scratches?

Re:

Rule of thumb is if the scratch can be caught with your finger nail you will need a paint job.

If not then the clearcoat can been machined polished. Some scratches can even been wetsanded back and then polished.

You can buy scratch removers but without a proper machine and pads the remover can only remove light scratches by hand.

Best get it looked at by a detailer to start with. You will be surprised at the stuff these guys can put right.

Paint and clearcoat are so thin it doesn't take much to scratch right through them. They typically measure about 8 mils thick - 8/1000". I feel for you...I'd be bumming big time.

Someone key-scratched the trunk of my Z, i went to the dealership and a paintshop and they both told me since you can see the primer (the white stuff under the paint) you need to repaint the whole trunk. I hope your's isnt as bad as mine is.

I second this. Make sure you find a "good" shop to do this. They will use a high speed buffer and if not done right you will get swirl marks. Especially on a black car all of it will show. It's like a burnt mark and will be permanent.

Very sorry that someone did that to your car. Hope you can get it fixed up as good as new.

Sorry Tommy, I was born and raised in Orlando and had an incident like that in the 80s, one of the reasons I left that city, Nice place to visit with a rental car.
