I live at Mumbai. The pictures are Mumbai - Goa. one way drive is about 12 hours (although 600 kms one way ) single lane, beautiful mountain roads.

Yes top of the line, due to the high custom duty (120%) there are less number of imports. But in the cities you can see plenty of 3 series, 5 series on the roads since they are Assembled in india.

120%?!?!! Talk about protectionism!!!! Is that for private imports only?

How long will the Indian consumer tolerate that?!? Free trade FTW.

All imports. I purchased offically via BMW showroom.

The rate has been high always and dont see that going down. And for 99% people it doesnt really matter as the 99% cars are made in india so there is no import duty.

BMW has assembly line here, so does MB, Audi and all the other mass car producing companies GM, Toyota, hundai, honda, almost everyone.

I guess its the same system in china as well, although duty is a little lower.

thanks. I loved the alpine white with red interiors, saw the pictures somewhere on zpost before i ordered this combo, since the dealers only import the car on order. No test drive, No showroom sample

Crazy. As if the wage and FX differential weren't enough to encourage purchasing locally, they have to slap that tax on! That will not assist India in the longterm and merely encourage poor efficiency in local manufacturing.
