Short antenna for GPS?

I do want to change the antenna to a shorter one, but any expert here can enlighten me about its compatibility with the GPS system?

Thank you in advance.

The GPS and radio have separate antennas, so go ahead and change the radio antenna, it will have have no effect on your GPS.

I have just ordered a 105mm Stubby Antenna from the HK BMW dealer. It is not shown in the website. They said it is a new item, so I have to wait for the supply from Europe. From the picture on their computer monitor, it looks like the one on the Mercedes SL.

Hi there, I guess you have installed your antenna by now?
I'm hoping to get a short one as well, does it have any interference with the GPS then?

Seriously. Read the thread.

Test this yourself right now before buying a stubby antenna: go outside and unscrew the radio antenna. Use your GPS. Notice how it works just the same with no radio antenna at all?

According to the heisenberg uncertainty principle the OP may have a legitimate concern.

Nothing can be measured or observed without changing the outcome.
Even looking sideways at the antenna may impact his GPS in some small way.
Heaven help him if a butterfly lands on it.

I got my stubby antenna from the BMW dealer. It came in an OEM BMW box. I put the stubby antenna on before I even left the dealer lot with my new car. Never had a problem once with my radio reception or my GPS. It's the only antenna I have ever bothered to use.

Apologies to our Hong Kong friends if you have taken our humour the wrong way.

In all seriousness, as from the first reply onwards, there is no linkage between the external antenna and the GPS system.

The GPS, the satellite radio and the AM/FM radios all have their own antennas and none of them interfere with eachother.

Each of those systems runs on a separate transmission frequency and as such needs a different type of antenna.

Thanks~ No offense taken
Ended up going to the BMW accessories shop to get the antenna mentioned by HKbimmer~
Everything went fine
Since this is my first car, I'm a bit afraid of taking stuff apart and putting them back together

Also bought a luggage box there to keep my stuff tidy
