How to Program Universal Garage Door Opener
Tried for 30 minutes to program the garage door opener. Followed the instructions exactly as written in the owner's manual, no luck. Had no problem programming both of my garage doors with my 09 335i. One is a Genie and the other is a Craftsman. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Try this...Push your old remote control button first and hold it before you press the button of the BMW to start the scanning process.
When I had trouble programming mine (I had no problem with the M3). I took it back to the dealer and they couldn't do it either. it's the same universal remote as all the 3 series but just a little more sensitive. In the end, I had to figure it out on my own....and it worked...the way I did above. |

When I programmed the car,
1. Made sure memory was clear and the pushed the remote and homelink button at the same time until I saw the light flashing rapidly. 2. I pushed the "learn" button on the main unit and then pushed the homelink button...my garage light would blink 3. I'd push the homelink button two more times within 30sec of pushing the "learn" button.'' Steps 2 and 3 are different from how I previously programmed my cars.

One of my garage door openers, a Craftsman, worked the first time. The other one, a Genie, I cannot get to work. I am on the phone holding now with Homelink hoping that they can help me. After holding for almost 30 minutes he was no help. Advised trying a different button on the remote but still no luck. I can get the light to flash quickly and then after pushing the learn button on the unit in the garage, I push the homelink button in the car 3 times, it flashes quickly and then steady light but still will not activate the opener. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Success at last. Talked to the folks at Genie. They had 3 recommendations. Put a fresh battery in the remote. Use a different remote. Use one of the small buttons instead of the large one. Did all 3 and it worked the first try. Not sure why but all is well now.
