Both articles were complimentary but then again this is the BMW Car Club magazine. Track article was interesting in that they said the Z435 performed as well as the 335i which did very well on the Watkins Glen track.
Personally I think the 35is is way overpriced and I don't like the styling but to each his own. Both articles are worth reading.

These 2 Roundel articles confirm that the E89 Z4 is much more a "touring" car than a true sports car. However, it did perform well on the track considering that it was completely stock including the OEM runflat tires. Top speeds were up to 138 mph, some problem with brake fade. BTW, it had a manual 6 speed tranny which the authors said was "better" than the DCT for tracking the car. Let the debate begin.

I love a good debate especially since there is no right or wrong answer, it all comes down to personal preference.

I went to Willow Springs yesterday and the car performed quite well.
The temp was cool and windy. No overheating problems but the temps did get a bit past normal. I think on a hot day in summer, overheating might be an issue. IMHO, the car performed pretty much like the guys on Top Gear said. You can't finesse it around the track. You just need to muscle it through. It didn't do anything bad and when I got out of shape, a little throttle brought it back around. I talked to a guy with a Z3 M (with the S54 315 hp engine) and he said I pulled away from him on the straight every time. The DCT was the best. Upshifts are optional since it will upshift at redline. Left foot brake, downshift with a thumb push...very, very nice. The only drawback is I had to fill up twice I am happy |

Thanks for the track report. I want to get out, just haven't had the chance. Plus my favorite track, VIR, doesn't allow roadsters without full cages. I'll have to go to Roebling in GA or Kershaw, SC.
