I switched out the RFTs and upsized to Conti Extreme DWs 235 35-19 and 275 30-19. Big improvement in every way. Bought an M Mobility kit for $150 just in case.

Got my tires early and installed. It makes a world of difference. A lot of the rattle disappeared. The car is smoother and has less understeer. Makes me wonder if BMW even designed or tested the car with EFTs. Went 235/35/19 f and 275/30/19 rear.

I know this is a concern of many but no they are not too big. They seem to be the correct size for the car actually and the OEM tires are too small.

Depends on what specifically you are referring to. In the snow, having wider tires is a bad thing. So winter tires are generally taller (with smaller wheels) and narrower. As all season, in wet conditions, it should not hurt.

Lots of good info (especially relating to the all-seasons.) I am leaning towards the Conti All-Seasons and dropping the run-flats.....all aimed at enjoying the Zed even on those cooler, wetter days too!

This might be a dumb question but is there a reason we have to stick to the 275/30 versus like a 275/40 for the back wheels...I know that that number denotes sidewall height and i thought a higher sidewall might be better for less pothole incidents??

Hmm that could be too big and rub the wheel well. Increasing the width also increase the sidewall height as the second number is the width to height ratio.
Someone I think went more exotic on the tire size on this forum. I can't remember who.

When my M3 needs new shoes I will to investigate Conti All-Seasons Performance tires. BTW someone mentioned 11K low performance for the tires ... it all depends (as we all know) how we drive our car.

So I'm into the PSS at about 1K miles and I drive the heck out of it because it goes where I point it, no more understeer plus I don't have to worry about back injuries. Running 235/40x19 (F) and 265/35X19 (R) at 36 and 40 psi respectively. An occasional scuff on the frt wheel well liners during full wheel lock parking lot manuvers. No scuffing on the rears. Next buy I will drop the front down to a 225/40x19. Speedo is now 1 mph slow at 80-100 mph to GPS versus 4 mph optomistic with the stock size RFT's.

A lot depends on if your talking an 18" or a 19" wheel. It will never work with a 19". You might get away with it with an 18".

Although bigger is not always better. For handling my thoughts run with the other German brand and I like their look. A couple of Porsche examples (Boxster S & Cayman S). Porsche doesn't mount rubber bans on their wheels. Although I never checked before I bought my tires.

It isn't so much the wheels cannot handle the size it is the wheel well which can potentially rub

I had new set of PSS put on this morning and the decision was easy on size. In Switzerland if you want to go outside of what stock offers you need to get paperwork done and register it with the authorities which made it easy to tell the sales guys to just keep it stock 225/35/19 and 255/30/19
Only drove 5 miles home but it was noticeably quieter and absorbed bumps much better than the RFT it replaced. |

I was looking at sizing, and knowing that my speedo is off by about 3% high, An increase of 3% would correct it.
Going 235/35 and 275/30 would correct by 2% (increase diameter by increasing width) Going 225/40 and 255/35 would correct by 4% (by increasing ratio) For looks I think the wider are better. Plus they ad rim protection. I think the higher ratios are cheaper.
