After 17500 miles I got a really funny cold star and so I took my car in on Wednesday and got it back Friday. I got everything Ramiles has on his bill but I got one more piece last numbers 446-C. It said Core something... Can't remember.

Most of my iDrive settings were all reset such as light, lock, address book, and one touch buttons. The UGDO was not. I forgot to check the bluetooth.
I didn't see all those items on my ticket but they did 2 SW updates. So far the car seems to run the same.

Took it in Monday for the HPFP and software update...got it back Monday night, car drove fine ....for 200kms, then the check engine light came on. I was at work so booked it for a check, drove fine on the way home until I stopped at a light near my house (all highway with no stops to this point) , the revs dropped to 200 rpm and it was missing like crazy. Limped it home the last two clicks and called BMW. Loaded it onto a flatdeck and said bye bye. Next day, at BMW, a page of faults and a failed intake pressure sensor and injectors (they were all changed with the HPFP recall).
Today, sensor and injectors replaced , car was running on 3 cylinders, now it's running on 5 cylinders. there's a stuck valve and no compression on cylinder #1. Engine is now taken apart and in pieces and they don't know what happened to cause this issue....

I think just maybe it was the work they did last Monday..

The failure was a broken valve spring, nothing to do with the HPFP, I think the other stuff was due to the HPFP and the spring was a coincidence. I get the car back in about 10 days as we have to wait for the spring to fly over from Germany...

Well you keep getting snow anyway

sorry to hear they don't stock a spring like it in Calgary. Bet if you pay for delivery (perhaps you pay for it anyway) the spring could be at the dealer by overnight delivery.

Good luck in getting the car back soon.

Cheers,

Rolf-Dieter

PS.

1) I'll be taking my M3 for a spin here shortly ... yes it is snowing here right now it will turn into rain very soon.
2) Felt great taking her for a spin, still trying to get used to the MT been a while since I drove a shift. I'll make it eventually

The foot of snow we got last Saturday is mostly gone now, I'm taking the truck down to Phoenix this weekend and staying for a week so the gravel may be swept up by the time I get back..or not. I have other roadsters to play with if I don't get it back right away...

Have a great time in Phoenix keep an eye out for the Sheriff and the Highway Patrol, they are unforgiving once you cross that border south of you, after all your truck is not a Roadster I keep forgetting that too when I drive rented cars.

Cheers, Rolf-Dieter

To stay on the topic ... hope your HPFP lasts a long time

Still haven't received the HPFP recall letter. I seem to remember somebody posting that the letters are sent out in waves, but I can't find the forum post. Wonder what's taking so long. 7700 miles and no problems so far. But I'm planning a 2 week trip out east over the summer and would hate to get stranded with a busted pump. Does anyone have the recall letter schedule?

Call the dealership and have them check the service records, it will say what's on deck for it.

I pick up my car Tuesday... the HPFP has been replaced, early oil change and the dreaded firmware update accomplished. It took them several tries to get the firmware update installed. I have been driving a 328i since saturday and can't wait to get my Z back!

Dropped the car off yesterday for an oil change (free at 9k miles, low-mileage 1-year special) and the HPFP recall.

I was told the recall is just a software, not hardware, update.

Called back today, the software update has failed twice and they were trying for the 3rd time...

You don't happen to have any mods? i.e. the smartop and did not disable it?

The HPFP recall is most certainly a hardware replacement. At the same time they do a software update. I had mine done and it took 5 attempts to upload the software update... two full days in the shop. Apparently this is not uncommon.

You would think by now that BMW would have figured out a new, better, faster, more reliable way to update the software in their cars.

That's the only mod I have.

Latest update from the dealership is that a computer module isn't communicating with the others and they'll have to order it from Germany...

Did you disable the smartop? If not it will conflict with the upgrade. I also went through the same issue.

I'm not sure that this is true. I have a 2010 with production date of 2/22/2010. When I brought my car in they looked up the recall by my VIN and the computer said software only. If you have info to the contrary I'd like to know.

No, I forgot.

However this may not be the problem. I recently had an incident where many of my personalized settings (seat and mirror positions, radio buttons) got "forgotten" overnight. So something is fishy with the car.

So they also had to order some new CA module from Germany for mine. Software update worked, however they installed the newer firmware that also utilizes album images, etc. My iDrive was not compatible. I believe you need a newer z4 with the idrive module installed to process images. So I took it back and they finally removed the smartop module and the firmware went on without a hitch.

You should really disable it or let the tech know or you may end up with a firmware update that is not compatible and have to go through the same thing I did.
