Fuse box find

I took the Z out for a top down ride Sat. It was in the high 80's and beautiful. However I needed the AC. I discovered the complete climate control system would not work. ###!!!!'&&&& pissed off.
1st thought. Bad fuse.
The issue was the large 40 major fuse was lose. Pulled and replaced and all was good in the climate control world.
In any case, when I took the fuse box cover off and I found a 12 volt cigarette lighter socket facing down available for charging adapters.
Does anyone else have this?

Yeah, I have the BMW LED light charging in there for emergencies. I also make my passengers take it out and use that one instead of them taking over my armrest while I'm driving. My elbow needs somewhere to sit.

If I'm not mistaken, it's located in the passenger footwell, upper right hand corner. In fact (at least in my z), you can see a piece of paper (the fuse map presumably) through the bottom of the fuse box, through what looks as though "venting" holes.

I believe steps 1-7 cover gaining access to the fuse box:

You wouldn't have to disconnect the cable in step 4 to work in the fuse box, I just did that because I was going to have to be monkeying around in there to run cables, etc. and it would be a pain if that panel was hanging there or sitting on the floor

Everyone should have the 12v outlet in the passenger footwell. The E90 3 series also have it in the same location.

At least in Europe only those cars without a "smoker's package", as far as I remember.

Best regards

Probably because in my EU Z4 I have no outlet under the fuse box (just an empty hole) but I have two outlets in the console ...

Do you have the smoker's package (ashtray + additional cigarette lighter behind the gearstick)? In this case you indeed should not have an outlet under the fusebox (as with my old 2009 E89 23i). My new EU 35i is not equipped with the quite useless smoker's package, has no ashtray, no additional cigarette lighter behind the gearstick but the outlet under the fusebox.

So I think it's the smoker's package that is responsible for the location of the additional outlet

I have also lost my A/C today. Started the car and the controls were dark. No air blowing either.
Drove it to the dealer for repairs.
