Anyone out there with CPO wrap warranty purchase experience?

So my '13 E89 will be out of factory warranty on 2/28/17 and I've been researching extended warranty options. I bought the car non-CPO from a Benz dealer who had taken it in on trade from a woman who had purchased it CPO seven months prior. Apparently, since the car had been certified prior to my buying it (even though the CPO warranty was non-transferable and is still on BMW records under her name), it is eligible for a CPO wrap and I've been quoted $1995 for a 7/100 Gold plan by my local dealer. From what I'm reading on other sites, I can probably shave 10% off that price by shopping around, although I would have to send a key fob to the selling dealer for verification of mileage. Anyone else out there gone this route? I know there are different schools of thought about extended warranties, but this seems to be a reasonable deal for this kind of coverage. Your thoughts?

I have a 2011 35i build date of 3/10. Car was purchased as CPO from BMW dealer in 4/13 with 27,000 mi. Purchased Platinum wrap in 4/14 (32,000 mi.) to add 7th year. Paid $1190 after shopping around.

Work done under std warranty were:
valve cover and gasket, injectors, plugs, coils, headliner, top control panel.

under CPO: ($50 copay / work order)
oil pan gasket, Left front thrust bearing, Valve cover gasket (#2), 2 more coils (replaced all coils myself with Eldor), HPFP, and oil housing gasket,

Under wrap plan: ($50 copay / work order)
No work done yet expires 4/17 (oil housing gasket #2 covered under defective part from previous job). 52,000 mi.

I purchased wrap to be on the safe side. The only other item I would like to get replaced before coverage expires is the LPFP.
If you have not had common failure parts replaced or have DCT that weeps it could be worth it.

I thought about a 3rd party warranty after the wrap, but decided against it. I have been doing my own fluids and recommended services since 5/14

Warranty work

B0b2014

Have ever totaled up what all those repairs would have cost at the dealer?
Also do you think that is a fairly typical experience for the E89?

I had an EasyCare Gold Wrap (bumper to bumper) 7/100 aftermarket warranty on my previous 2012 135i that I never used. Not because the car was that reliable, but because I ended up getting rid of it sooner than expected for this Z4 and it was under BMW original warranty for a year a and half of my two and a half year ownership. I cashed out the remaining and got 50% of the value out of it because I never used it. Note that the depreciation on the warranty's value starts as soon as you buy it. Once you start using it, you cannot cash anything out.

Having a buddy who owns a shop here locally that works on European cars and I having been deeply involved in it for years, I can say EasyCare has never failed any of his customers. That's why I bought one from them through the BMW dealer I bought the car from. There are other reputable ones out there as well.

Get a low deductible warranty, even if it costs more. I have no issue with EasyCare, but I got a high deductible one ($500) and that was part of the reason I never used it and a good portion of the reason I got rid of the car. Had I opted for a lower deductible warranty, I would've used it on the three repairs I had to do in the final year of ownership out of pocket. Total dealer cost (parts and labor) on those issues would've been half the cost or more of my warranty's cost, easy. I firmly believe I would've broke even or better had I kept it the two to three more years I thought I would. I didn't use it because my buddy did my coolant reservoir on the hookup and my SA took it easy on me with the electrical problem. I managed to sneak the DMTL pump in under amnesty by tugging at the SM's heart strings. Almost none of these jobs would've made any sense blowing $500 on the deductible, but they added up. The DMTL pump I would've used it for sure, but still would've been $500 out of pocket on that, regardless.

I have an aftermarket one (same exact coverage options I had on my previous BMW) on my GF's 2013 Mercedes C 250. That car will be driven into the ground and the BMW's lesson was learned. I have $50 deductible on that one. Her original warranty is up Oct. this year.

I will NEVER own a German car without a warranty.

No I did not total up what costs would be. I did ask what typical price would be on the oil pan gasket job and was told about $1200 due to labor (drop sub-frame). Yes most repairs are typical of the N54 engine with my build date of 3/10 (valve cover and gasket, oil filter housing gasket, oil pan gasket, pre-series 11 injectors, and the "infamous" Bosch coils). My car is modded and tuned to 425 HP and 470 lb/ft at the tires so any weakness of the fuel or ignition system is exasperated. Stock car was 270 HP 326 lb/ft at the wheels.

what's the best approach when shopping around for extended warranty:

hey, i want extended warranty, can you do $100 or ($200, $300, and so on) above cost?

How would that work unless you knew what dealer cost was?

you hope they reveal it by deduction. you ask for $100 above cost and they say no but can do $800 above cost. you ask how much the price is and they would say $1800. so in your head, $1000 is the cost.

(situation is hypothetical.)

Sorry, but that's not how negotiating works...
