First Road Trip

My better half and I will be departing in a few days on a road trip of about 1000 miles. Most will be interstate driving with some time on mountain secondary roads in western NC. I will post my impressions as well as gas mileage readings upon our return next week. Here's hoping for some warm sunny days.

Where at in western NC? Be aware of some road closures on the BRP south of Asheville. I believe the rest of the Blue Ridge Parkway is open. It should be a beautiful drive, although a bit early for blooms in the higher altitudes.

We are staying at Lake Lure in a timeshare. Will make some day trips to Asheville, Hendersonville and our favorite barbecue place in Saluda. May try and visit Little Switzerland as this is where we honeymooned in 1970.

Return from Road Trip

The first picture pretty much sums up our trip. Drove just over 1000 miles, about 800 on interstate at 70-80 mph with the remainder on 2 lane mountain roads around Lake Lure and Hendersonville, NC. Car performed flawlessly, 6 speed manual tranny is a joy to shift, Yokohama tires are nice and quiet on the highway, very responsive in the turns and provide a nice ride. The wife commented that the ride quality is as good, if not better, than the 335i vert that we traded. Trunk space was adequate for a nice size suitcase and a couple smaller items even with the top down. Mileage at highway speeds on the interstate was as high as 32. All in all I couldn't be more pleased.
