Vehicle Recovery System ?

Hey guys,
My new z4 is arriving soon so I was working on auto insurance quote.
and I saw the option for "Vehicle Recovery System"(which will qualify for a discount I guess...)but I was able to confirm if z4 has this feature. or is it just a service that bmw provides by default ?

Thanks

If I'm not mistaken, you need to sign-up for BMW assist. In Canada it's free for 1 year, 4 in the U.S. Thereafter, it's $199 a year for Canadians, not sure about any other region though.

Once you've signed up for Assist, you should see the option in iDrive, just can't recall where exactly, as it's been sometime since I've looked through those Assist options (includes other stuff as well, like Concierge etc).

the person i spoke with at BMW assist said that they can locate the car via triangulation using the onboard cellular connetion for BMW assist. YOu will have to of course get a police report and supply that to BMW Assist and then they work directly with your police department to coordinate the recovery.

I will also say that once you get the car to activate BMW assist you must call them using the onboard call function. (Press the BMW assist button) they will run through a series of questions about you and the vehicle to get your account setup.

I think here's the answer:

BMW Assist with Bluetooth $650

The BMW Assist and Bluetooth System comes with four years of the BMW Assist Safety Plan which provides Automatic Collision Notification, Emergency Request (SOS), Enhanced Roadside Assistance, MyInfo, TeleService, Door Unlock and Stolen Vehicle Recovery services.
For details visit:www.bmwassist.com.

so it comes with bmw assist.

Correct, but as noted by rking above, you'll need to press that button in the car in order to activate Assist and you'll also need to provide your dealer a valid email address as well (or possibly do this over the Assist call).

Then you're good to go!

OP, its good you checked if your specific car has it since it isn't always a default for BMW. On my wife's 2011 328 it was an option that we had to purchase.

As others have said, you need to press the SOS button once you get the car to activate the service.
