Some people love it, even though they never off-road it. I just don't get it though. The one time I drove one it was terrible. It felt like a penalty box. Slow, loud (not good loud), scary handling, and fisher-price "my first interior". With that said people like what they like. So if you want it, go for it.

This post makes zero sense to me. Doesn't seem you wanted anyone's opinions unless they agreed with what seems to be is your already made up mind. You clashed with those who gave you some legitimate reasons on why to not own one and you heaped praise upon the one person who only put positive comments on why you should buy one. Then you ask the dumbest question of all on a BMW forum on whether you should buy a Rubicon or Sahara.....Why not go ask the thousands of people on actual Jeep forums what you should do unless you're afraid you will get flamed for asking stupid questions or questions that you have already made your mind up on. Go buy your Jeep...enjoy your Jeep...and please keep the stereotype going and actually buy a 50" light bar for your Jeep because I am certain you'll find it quite useful.....oh and by the way if you say a Starwood is a beast on a Jeep forum they will mock and ridicule you until leave the page....they are overpriced pieces of shit with Chinese junk bolted on that is painted stupid matching colors and have the price multiplied by 3x.

Damn, you're really mad.

First of all, this was posted under "General Automotive (non-BMW) Talk + Photos/Videos" which is the proper forum under which to post this type of question.

Second, posting on a Jeep forum will get me only positive responses and I wanted to hear from people like myself who went from cars to Jeeps or own both.

Third, the people I disagreed with were those who didn't read my first post or understand the logic behind this purchase. I'm aware that it is not a practical car and that it doesn't handle well. I'm in a position where I can buy a completely impractical vehicle. I also disagreed with those who just said "Chrysler is shit" as my first hand experience is quite different.

I don't have a dog in the Starwood fight. Clearly you have remarkably strong opinions on them but I thought it looked nice. My bad...

This is meant to be a lighthearted conversation among enthusiasts. I didn't mean to ruin your day.

FWIW, your first post was right on the money and really informative. I just don't know what made you so mad since then. yikes!

Not mad at all...just real. You already had your mind made up when you asked the question it seemed by your responses so that part always makes me shake my head. I specifically told you the pluses and minuses but you only responded to the negative comments or the one positive person.

I am Jeep enthusiast so the Starwood deal rubs me the wrong way because they take advantage of uninformed people and create a high priced market for crappy made JK parts kinda like the M tax but without the quality.

There will be days when you say "i hate driving this stupid thing" and thats the point i was trying to get at.

Bottom line...it's your money so spend it as you will but believe me you wouldn't get only positive comments on a Jeep page about buying a Jeep. I hope you enjoy your Wrangler and don't forget to wave!!

Back to having fun with this thread. Best jeep mod ever - my friend with the Rubicon is named Rup. While he was in the hospital getting his knee rebuilt I stole - errr borrowed - his car and had the hood decals changed to RUPICON. Looks totally stock and people rarely notice, but it's pretty slick.

HAHAHA....The reaction people have when they drive the Jeep after its installed with a soft top is priceless!! They make this awful whistling noise and the top buffets so bad you'd swear something was broken or the top is going to rip right off the Jeep!!!

First post on Jeep forum after 50" install - Hey guys check out my new 50" light bar...what do you think? Followed by replies of that's awesome and oh boy another 50" light bar installed by someone who will never turn it on.

Second post on same Jeep forum after driving with said light bar installed - HOLY SHIT how do you guys get this thing to stop making so much friggen noise?!?! Followed by replies of take the stupid thing off because its a giant waste of money!! LOL

I do apologize for coming off like a tool.

I wouldn't waste the money on a Rubicon because its added value is all about off-roading so it wouldn't help you at all. If you decide to off-road it a Sahara or even a Sport model will be plenty capable. I always told people the best way to learn how to properly off-road is with a stock Jeep because then you really learn how to position the vehicle properly, modulate the gas, brake, clutch(if manual), and most importantly learn how to trust your spotter. I have guided many people with brand new stock Jeeps and I always love seeing there faces when they do something they think their Jeep has no business doing!

You said you would likely do 33" tires and a lift. My recommendation would be a 1.5-2" budget boost for a lift kit for a few hundred bucks and find a local Jeep club to help with the install. Don't pay some shop hundreds of dollars to do a couple hours worth of work max. I have installed 8 lift kits in my driveways for perfect strangers on a wrenching day and it's a ton of fun plus you make some new friends, learn more about your Jeep, and save a bunch of dough.

Also keep this valuable piece of info handy.....you will NEVER be finished modding your Jeep....EVER!!! You will always find something else that's cool or handy and want to buy it so be ready for your next obsession! Mine started life as a fun vehicle on 33's with a budget boost and ended up on 37s, lockers, full lift kit, full skids, etc...be ready to enjoy and spend some bucks!!!!

Yeah there's a guy in my office complex with a 6.4L Hemi AEV. He's a "high net worth individual" and bought it just for shits. I'll take a pic tomorrow. It sounds awesome but that's WAY too much money. Even if it's faster, it still can't handle worth a shit so it's a risky proposition. One of the wrangler guys in my office walked to him about it and he knew nothing.

There's also this JACKED Hummer H1 that's all rigged for offroad battle and a few other cool 4x4s.

A couple of thoughts:

1- The Jeep wrangler I believe had the highest resale value of any car on the road last year. You aren't risking much by trying it out for a year or two.

2- Some of the most enjoyable "automotive" experiences I've ever had in my life involve Jeep Wranglers.

3- There is a reason there is so much passion/culture behind that car

4- If you have a Jeep wrangler itch nothing else will scratch it and it won't go away until you've owned one for a while

5- My dad has a 991 Turbo and daily drives his wrangler sahara. I seriously think he loves his Jeep as much as his P-car.

6- Just do it. But if you do it you need to commit to enjoying it right. Pull the top off on a fall day and go find some friendly dirt roads. Pack a picnic and go someplace you've never been before. Find a local Jeep group and go for a more serious off road adventure (I wouldn't advise doing this alone without experience). Go drive it on a beach someplace. You won't regret it and you aren't risking much.

I used to offroad our 1998 4Runner (manual) quite a bit when I was in high school because it was a lease... then my dad bought it. Oops. That car ended up lasting to 340k before they donated it.

Good recommendation on the Sahara. I do think that'll fit my needs perfectly. I want the leather and LED headlights (standard on Sahara for 2017) so it's a perfect match.

I would likely start with the 33s then wait a bit before lifting. Also need to make sure I can clear my garage!

Yeah the mod bug is a vicious thing. I fell into it with my 1er but can only imagine what damage I could do with a jeep.

My wife and I have been driving jeeps for years, we love them. Currently have a '15 4dr Rubicon and she has a '12 2dr Sahara. They make great daily drivers. I have a short daily commute but my wife is in sales and drives hers on avg 4000 miles each month. No issues. Resale value has been great. Will probably always have at least one in the garage

I absolutely love my Wranger. I have a 2013 Unlimited Moab. If you are going to get one dont cheap out and get the base model, get one with leather, heated seats and the metal bumpers. They also come stock with a remote start which is pretty nice.

You will need to spend about 200 bucks and get some LED headlights the stock ones are trash. Ride quality honestly isnt that bad at all, even with my 33 inch tires unless your going 90 on the freeway its not a problem. Too be completely honest going fast in the Jeep feels comparable going slow in a GT-R.

Wranglers are very reliable as well and come with a 5 year 70k mile factory warrenty

I was also searching for a Wrangler but stumbled across this JGC for $500 on Craigslist! The only Monte Carlo Blue Jeep in the world...I spray painted it myself

It drives like absolute shit but it's fun in the mud/dirt

Already set on the Sahara with leather, etc and the 2017 has LED headlights stock (on Sahara, Rubi, and Rubi HR models) so that's a big plus.
