Top won't close

Don't know if this has happened to anyone. I've already scheduled a service appointment for tomorrow, still, I figured there might be a short cut.

Yesterday, I think I put the top up/down about 4 times. I guess the car got tired and finally decided that it didn't want to put the top back up.

At first I received the YELLOW warning light for the top. I looked in the manual and it said that the motor may be too hot. I left the top down over night and this morning I now get the RED warning light for the top. Maybe I burned the motor for the top. Anyone have any idea or have had this happen to them?

I know it's kinda obvious but did you make sure nothing is in the way or got caught in the mechanism?

I assume you tried to open it completely first, then tried to close it?

Make sure the cargo protection cover in the trunk is securely pushed down into the notches. When secured into the proper notches, it make a snapping sound.

Only top failure I ever saw since my 2007 335i days was when a guy had an umbrella caught between the centrer portion of the trunk and the left side thus blocking (slightly) the mechanism. It jamed up tighter than a 12 day clock !!! Burned out the motor and snapped a few rods and bushings. He had to pay for the repair himself (no warranty !!)since the fault was his own.... Many $K !!!!

I've done everything.

There was nothing in the trunk when I put it down. The cargo protection cover was also in place.

When I press the button to close the top, I hear a click and nothing else. When I let go of the button, the red warning light is shown on the dashboard and the button to put the top down flashes red. It's very strange!

I guess we'll figure out what happened when I take it in tomorrow.

It has happened to me for only one reason, too much up and down without the engine on. Battery ran out of steam - fortunately I started the engine and resolved the problem before it was too late.

An old school comment - did you check the fuses?
Also the dealer here reported on delivery that the roof may "complain" if you run the battery too low. He said they now advise owners to put it up or down whenever possible with the engine running, and to give the battery a good long drive (charge) afterwards if you have to open the top excessively.

Hearsay advice sorry - bu maybe worth a try...

Took it to the dealer this morning, the hydraulic pump burnt out. The car is only 11 months old and has 5000 miles. Weird!

Sort'a had a feeling that might be it, but it could have been a limit switch too.

We really haven't heard of any other hydraulic pump failures here on the forum.

My car says 'hydraulic roof system too hot'

My top won't open and says: 'hydraulic roof system too hot'. Already been to the dealer two weeks ago, then the roof wouldn't close with same error message on the iDrive screen. Unfortunately today it happened again, roof wouldn't open. (And today the sun finally shines in Holland !!! )
update: been to the dealer, made an appointment to replace the hydraulic aggregate (is that the right word?) next week. And in september they have to replace something which is a general recall action.. Hopefully after all this I can rely again on the roof opening and closing when I want!!
