"Ticking" Noise from Instrument Cluster
Has anyone ever had this ticking noise coming from the dash cluster? My car is the is and has comfort access. When I open the door and before getting in I hear this ticking sound. When I touch the cluster, you can actually feel pulses in sync with the ticking noises. Then it randomly stops. No other changes in the car such as lights going out or starting it or pushing the engine start button, etc. Attached is a video of what I am talking about. I wanted to make sure you could hear the noise so I got in close. In doing so, the noise is actually louder than it is in real life.

I don't know what that sound is, but I wish it was 77 degrees at 12:58am where I live.

Just a thought...but that sounds like the engine valves "tapping"....I get this as well.

Everything works perfectly fine. There are no bouts of nonfunctionality or hiccups in the performance, mechanical or gauge-wise. If it weren't for the sound (and associated pulsing sensations from the cluster), I would say the entire car was running in pristine condition.
As far as the engine ticking, the car isnt on. Right after I unlock the doors to get in, that starts before I can even sit down. |

I have CA and do not have not ever had this unusual sound.
I'd have BMW check it out. Does not sound right.

#1. Car's not running, so that rules out every 'mechanical' (engine-related) problem possible.
#2. As such, def related to the electrical system (and assoc. components). #3. Not sure if you notice in person, but from how you recorded the video, it's clear it's actually louder on the speedo side than the tach side. Coming from left-of-center of the cluster. Interesting. #4. That ain't right! Off to the dealer and get that puppy looked at (assuming you're still under warranty) #5. Good luck. |

Yep, sometimes...perhaps not "inside the dashboard"...but definitely from within the cab...particularly first start in the morning, but not after the engine warms up. I can definitely hear the engine ticking. Of course the OP now says this noise is there when the engine has been turned on, so no idea what that is, given I've not heard that on mine.

Digging up an old thread. You guys get this resolved? I hear a similar sound from my instrument panel and am looking for your advice/solution. Only when the car is powered up (not started). When doors unlock or after sitting in a while and then power is provided to the cluster. Thanks.
