Do you name your cars?

Just wondering if you guys name your cars If so, what did you name your car and why?

I named my 335i "Calixta" (pronounced cah-lis-tah). It's the French/Spanish version of the name "Calista", as seen in Kate Chopin's short story "The Storm". The name "Calista" is of Greek origin, meaning "most beautiful".

The Z4 I named "Zayna" because I wanted a name that starts with "Z". It is of Arabic origin, and means "beauty and grace"

Not really, other than referring to it as "the Z".

One thing that has always really bugged me is the expression "my baby". Makes my skin crawl every time I hear people referring to their car as that. Anyone else feel that way?

No... maybe I should call it the tezties?

I usually just call it my C4 (American Zee). No matter if I am in the US, Europe or China. It has become a really bad habit as I often make non-americans think I drive a Citröen without even noticing .

My female friends in China like to refer to it as my baby gf or mistress... Chinese generally like things to be cute/funny rather than cool. Chinese boys, especially those who know cars, will call it a BMW Z4 (in Chinese of course). And lets face it, no matter where you are, the sDriveXX part is just too German to be loved by anyone passionate enough to buy a roadster. But the BMW part is important to Chinese because it is one of the most regarded brands here. And in China, brands = face = the meaning of life (almost).

But while on the topic of names I would like to tell what my license plates say. Here in China most numbers can be pronounced to sound like words. For instance does "88" sound like "bye bye" in Chinese, and "3q" sounds like "thank you".

The numbers and letters on my license plates basically say "ML, I want, I really want". To fully understand what this means in China, click here:

You lost me there. How does Z4 become C4?

I'm going to go ahead and hazard a guess... is it something like "ML51591"? My plate is less subtle. It basically says "What is love? Baby don't hurt me."

no name for the first one (Grey 2003 3.0 Sport)

second one was "Zoom Buggy" (Red 2006 3.0si)

current one is "Nannerpuss" (Yellow 2013 is)

I figure, if its going to look that obnoxious, might as well refer to it in similar fashion when talking to strangers...

"Hi, wow, that's a beautiful car", "Thanks! His name is Nannerpuss", "...", "...", "..."

It usually get pretty awkward...

To me, Americans pronounce Z like "Zee" which again sounds like "C". It is hard for me to tell the difference because I am not American (or British), and just cant make that Z sound very well. Basically, if I try to pronounce buzz, it will sound more like buss...

If a girl asks, of course I will say "ML" stands for "My Love".

...But only after I have let her try to guess it by herself, typically having gotten all shy, giggily and what not in the process.

Names are for boats, not cars.

If I had to name my Z4 it would be called "the blue pill"; because it's blue, and very effective male enhancement*.

* not that I need enhancement by the way

Yes, we always give our cars a name, we just never tell anyone what they are.

It's bad luck not to name a boat, car, plane, rifle etc.

Xena - Warrior Princess

Our other car is a Sportsmobile, its name is Sporty Spice.

Don't judge me till you get to know me...
