The RLS (rain light sensor) is on the windshield glass behind the rear view mirror. It detects both rain and light. The sensoro on the back of the rearview mirror is for auto dimming of the mirror. The sensor on the dash is to adjust AC intensity for sunlight entering the vehicle.

i honestly don't understand why you're replying to a four month old post, we've discussed this on other posts. if you just joined search before replying or posting new threads on old subjects...
the mast is for am and telephone, the fm diversity is in the rear bumper. and i'm sure everyone knows what the sensors are for by now...

Just to re-state my old post [with corrections]
There are a plethora [1] of antennae in the new Z4, 1 - GPS Antenna in front of the inside rear view mirror in the "Black Box" 2 - DAB Antenna in front of the inside rear view mirror in the "Black Box" 3 - Backup Telephone Antenna under center console 4 - Telephone Antenna in left side of rear bumper 5 - TV Antenna in left side of rear bumper 6 - DAB Antenna in right side of rear bumper 7 - FM Antenna width of rear bumper and along the left side [dipole] along with an amplifier and 2 trap circuits above the rear window to "focus" the signals down to the rear bumper 8 - AM Antenna in rod core on left side 9 - Telephone Antenna in spiral wound conductor on AM rod core Feel free to correct this list, as it was the best I could come up with from the BMW Parts Manual [1] Finally got to use the word plethora in a real sentence |

its about 10 bucks - was ordered from Europe - England I think - on Bimmerpost - there is a thread about it - on mine - it affects the AM reception - you still get AM reception - but its muffled - or not as clear - so during the winter time - when the top does not go down, I put the orriginal one back - in the summer when I wont listen to the poor radio anyway - I will put the stubby back -
Photos of both below on the car ! |
