You are off to a good start because the hardest part about street photography is going out there with a camera and taking pictures of strangers. Try to get closer to your subjects. Look for interactions. Ask strangers if you can take their picture. There is no set way to do street photography. I have lots of it on my wordpress site. Try this link for starters: https://ronscubadiver.wordpress.com/category/amsterdam/

I look for younger and good looking subjects, but many street photographers are great at photographing hard luck stories. Find an interesting sign to use as a backdrop and wait for people to move into the scene. You will never run out of things to try because there are so many people in the city.

Thank you, appreciate it!

They are actually not photoshopped. I shot these RAW and adjusted:

Exposure (within a stop), highlights/shadows/whites/blacks, saturation, the curves, and a bit of Hue/Saturation/Luminance adjustment per color channel

No spot adjustments/addition/subtraction..just Lightroom

Camera used as follows:

Leica SL with M-T adapter and 28mm summicron F2, 50mm summilux F1.4, and 90mm summicron F2

All handheld, manual focus, but aperture priority mode used mostly wide open where I can (will toss an ND filter on or move ISO down to 50 when reasonable)

Diver,

Checked it your page, some very nice shots. I like the idea of just finding backdrops that I like as a statement and letting the scene fill the way I want to frame it with people, hopefully to convey some emotion

I'll give it a shot, beauty of the hobby, life long project in improvement.

That 2nd and 3rd shot, even in black and white, are frame-worthy.

Awesome photos, as a New Yorker I know everyone of those locations. You capture the spirit very well which is what you want in a street photograph, very good eye.
Looks like the snow is messing with the focus...I'm no photo expert but I'm sure there's an easy fix, other than that, the camera and low light shots are great.

My approach to "Street" is a little different:

Closing Shop by David Stephens, on Flickr

First, I think in terms of Street and Candid. I don't do a lot of it near where I live, because I'm out shooting Wildlife and Landscape every chance that I get; however, when I travel, I go out looking for subjects, more in line with monuments and icons, but I also keep an eye out for what people are doing. In the woods, shooting wildlife, when I notice people enjoying nature, I shoot that.

Here's an Album of what I consider to be Street/Candid:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/dcstep...57663857993296

This is not my "main thing" but several these types of images have made it onto my walls. Getty has even sold a couple from the sub-category that I call "People In Nature". I tend to take a lot of backsides so that I don't have to worry with model releases.

I like it Dave. I feel like the beauty of having living things in photos, is that its a single moment that just can't be recreated. However we manage to capture that, its unique.

I agree. I spend so much time shooting animals and landscapes that I'm really draw to my shots where people are interacting with the venue and/or each other. I've chastised myself about not getting enough people shots into my travel books, so I'm concentrating on that more.
