F30 35i vs E89 35i initial thoughts
Switched out my wife's E90 328 for an F30 335 last night.
Some quick pros and cons relative to my E89 35 + performance similar but mpg seems higher + tech is way better. Heads up display and HK stereo most of all + / - much more low key - exhaust quieter especially on shifts and on overrun Can't wait to push the handling limits to get a better feel for the passive m sport suspension and test out the heat capacity of the brakes (larger rotors and fixed piston front calipers). EDIT: pics or it didn't happen Last edited by nicknaz; 05-25-2013 at 04:41 PM.. |

What a lucky wife
Don't forget this upgrade: Edit: It is brand new 320iL re-badged by an owner who isn't worthy Last edited by Asbjorn; 05-25-2013 at 11:30 AM.. |

Hello!
mpg = miles per gallon? I've owned a E92 335i manual gear with the N54 motor (the F30 motor is N55), and when i changed for a Z4 35i DKG (N54), It drunk a little bit more... |

Yes, mpg = miles per gallon. I concur with you. My Z4 also seems to be slightly less fuel efficient (about 1 mpg less) than the 335i. The N55 is more efficient though.

Congrats! Looks good
Didn't like the F30 when it was first released, but it is definitely growing on me... How's the in-seat feeling in terms of power compared to the NA E90? Any plans for future mods, or keep the wife's stock? |

The 8th gear is a very much an overdrive gear. The motor is 500rpm lower than my z at 75mph so that certainly helps the efficiency. I believe it that the highway rating is 33mpg versus 24mpg for the z4.
Power is noticeable over the 328 (both e90 and f30). I drive in a way that makes it noticeable but can see why some get the f30 328 and claim its good enough. Two really neat things I noticed is that in sport+ and manual mode the gearbox won't kickdown or up shift at the fuel cutoff. It is more like a sequential manual than the dct. And in dsc off mode the car goes to sportiest settings instead of comfort. Re the mods, I'm a keep it stock and really drive it kind of guy. The gearbox feels like it is really slamming the shifts in manual mod and there is no data on how it handles sustained hard use + more power. I don't have the pockets or the interest to be the guinea pig for the community |
