OK, on to the review and first impressions. A little background info on me. I just got this car used with 12000kms about 2 weeks ago and was already very impressed with the power (my last bmw was a 98 MZ3). So now that I have put about 800kms on it, I decided it needed a tad more power without having to annoy my neighbors so i went with a ESS Direct Flash.

Being a smartass I went straight for the stage 2 map and took it for a rip. At first it didnt load and recovered back to stock so when i took it out for a spin, i was quite unimpressed. I kept thinking, this feels like stock or maybe even slower lol. So i went back to my house, reloaded again and DAMNNNNNNNN. Almost ripped my face off. The stock to stage 2 difference is really night and day. The mid range power, the tq, the grunt and scream. Its like someone took a condom off this car. I seriously dont know what to do with all this power in Hong Kong. Aside from the fear of killing myself, I dont think I will still have a driver's license in a year. This car begs you to step on it. This has totally transformed the car to something else. For now, I will set it back to stage 1 and ride that for a while, knowing I can increase my happiness levels easily by switching back to stage 2. AWESOME STUFF guys, truly unblieveably what one grand can do to this engine.
Nice Review!!
did it change the sound too?

i have a question, i read an article that said the 35is does 14 or 14.5 psi in over boost so does that mean with this tune you really shouldnt see any improvement in overall speed since it will still be running the same psi?

I'm pretty sure your car will accelerate more quickly rather than increasing the overall speed.

Hi all,

I just got my ESS unit on the mail. Just a question.. i´m kind of afraid to connect a battery charger as described on the installation procedures. It´s really needed? Or it´s just an extra security?
Ahhh,,, have to get a PC, as it seems the software doasn´t run on mac.

Cheers

Hooking up a charger is very easy to do and will provide for a trouble free read / write process.

Hi all,

Just installed the ESS on the 35is.
JESUSSSSSSS.... I love it. The car is now much more responsive.
My only problem was updating the software online.. the server was down, so it wasn´t updating. But after some tries it worked.

The process of reading the original software from the car, and writing the mod is straight forward. Manual is clear, and you can´t go wrong.

It´s worth every cent I´m happy to go for it. I was considering a product from the competition.

Cheers

Hello vitune!

Is it possible to make a Video of the speedo while accelerating from 100 to 200 km/h? Are you on Stage 2?

Kind regards, UBI

Hello vitune!

I hope, your car is fine and the weather better.

Do you like to make a video form your Z4?

Kind regards,

Very interesting thread regarding the ESS unit.

I'm very concerned about voiding the warranty and wonder if anyone has had any issues?

I'll probably order one of these since $1K isn't a huge cost on top of the price of the 35is anyway.

If your tunes leads to the fault and the dealer can prove that, they can deny your warranty claim. Including Dinan. But, Dinan provides a 2yr warranty (i think) if their stuff breaks your stuff. Most folks return the car to stock tune before taking it to the dealer just to be on the safe side.

I just wanted to join the number of happy ESS customers here. I use the E-flash software together with the USB gateway to change between maps, and it's really an easy way to tune the N54. Great product!

Hello Asbjørn!

Which Stage do you use? 2 with 390PS? RPM Limit: 7200RPM with DCT?

Are you the one, who will provide us an accelerating video?

Kind regards from Germany,
UBI

Hi UBI!

Say hi to the autobahn from me! I miss her!

And yes I use Stage 2 with DCT, but sadly Youtube is blocked here in China, and my VPN stopped working last year in fact most of the video sites found by video.google.com are blocked here and instead we use chinese "copies" such as youku.com and 56.com. Are those sites visible in the west? Last time I checked they were not...

The ESS tune Stg 2 does NOT increase the RPM limit 7200RPM on the DCT. This is determined by the DCT program. I have confirmed this with ESS.

Hi Asbjørn!

There ist so much traffic on the Autobahn, that it is not funny! High speed, no way!

I´m able to watch videos at youku.com. Give it a try please.

Or use http://4up.me/ for upload. It´s free!

Kindest regards,
UBI
