Any other E89ers impressed with latest Stringray spec?

http://m.autoblog.com/2013/06/20/201..._river_article

0-60 in 3.8s, 1.03g cornering, 12s 1/4 mile

VIR lap times superior to a 458

STOCK

And the MSRP is under $60k for the coupe with z51, competition seats and magnetic dampers.

Another way to put it is that the sticker price will be right around my 35i but with way more performance.

I am so impressed... I think this just might be my E89 replacement when my rental contract is up!!

It's just 0.15 second behind ZR1 on the VIR at 2nd place. Look at the cars in that list!

Definitely thinking about getting one

I have looked at the C6 prior to getting the Z, but the interior is just way too "American" if you will. Lacks any refinement you would expect from a $50,000+ car (although performance specs are remarkable for the price point). Although my car is a purchase, I will be looking to change the car out in 4 years, and like Nick I am seriously considering replacing it with a C7 (that, or a pre-owned Aston Martin Vantage ). For the price though, you really can't beat it. I think with all potions, it maxes out at about $73,000. It's a high price point, but considering my not even iS Z came in at $69,800 something MSRP, it is seriously something to consider.

Impressive car, indeed.

In regards to it being a "chick" car, I told my brother to look into a Camaro SS or the C7 Stingray as he is looking for a new car, and he just blatantly said, "Dude, I'm not getting a hick car." I lol'ed. Hope no one takes offense to that, but close enough to (c)hick car.

Re the vantage.. Had a colleague looking at those and as he dug in some more and talked to mechanics he figured out it would be a ton of $$$$ to keep the car on the road

I am really excited for the C7 Z06. If the base car is this good, the Z06 is going to be EPIC

The C7 is great and all, but the real question is: Will LeBron wear his headband tonight?

Honestly, even if you gave me a coupe for free that could do 0-60 in less than 1s, I would still prefer driving the Z4 95% of the time. Because when driving a nice roadster as a foreigner in China, going almost anywhere becomes an event. Parking, buying gasoline or just cruising around at slow speeds. Heads turn, people say wow out loud and it doesn't matter if a much more expensive Porsche is sitting right next to you.

Also, I personally don't care much about lap times. I care about how the car feels on over-steer. And the Z4 feels so awesome that I have yet to consider getting anything else. Impressive or not, the 0-60 numbers say nothing about this aspect of a cars handling. The Farrari 599 GTO for instance does 0-62 in 3.6s and is, as far as I can see, a perfect example of how a car should NOT feel on over-steer.

But I know that different people are impressed by different things. While deciding to buy the Z4 or not, the tuneability of the N54 engine was an important factor to me. At that time I had no idea the Z4 would impress me so much at slow speeds or while parked as it does here in China.

I'm a little bit confused about your post - Are you saying you prefer the Z because of the looks, the prestige in the brand, or just the overall driving feel?

In my opinion, the Stingray looks better than the Z. You mentioned Porsche, and that is a more "prestigious brand" than BMW, and if you talk about the driving feel, I don't think you can make that judgement until you actually drive it for yourself. Not to mention, both the Carrera and the Boxster out performs the Z anyway without super impressive 0-60 times. So in either case, the Z doesn't "win" in any category. Maybe I'm missing something, but as much as I am conflicted about the current Boxster's look, it and the C7 are damn good roadsters in my opinion, contrary to what you are saying. I would have most likely gotten a Boxster had it not been a ragtop.

It looks from your post that you're saying speed isn't everything, and I agree. However, the Stingray mixes performance very well with practicality (ok, maybe it doesn't have the best fuel consumption from a V8) but I can't imagine it being any less practical than a Z. The Coupe version is also a targa, which means it is 75% a convertible as well, and looks better with the top up because it was designed as a coupe! I mean, I feel like the only thing the Z has going for it that one-ups the C7 is the brand, if that is what you are ultimately saying. Besides, the Corvettes don't even carry the traditional Chevy badge, and I bet more people than not won't know what brand the vector/crossed flags is for.

Asbjorn, When you said foreigners in China I could not help but think of some old articles about "face" in business such as this one

http://www.cnn.com/2010/BUSINESS/06/...ple/index.html

Safe to say you are in the "not impressed with C7" camp

OP was talking about the C7 coupe. And my first point was that convertibles are more fun for me 95% of the time. It is just more of an event for me to drive top down here where I live now. Honestly I did not know the C7 coupe was a targa, but of course there is also a convertible version for people like me, and I guess OP just doesnt want to discuss that car due to the added weight.

My second point was that the Z4 is fun and feels awesome to power over-steer. Partly because of the unique seating position and partly because of how my car is balanced and boosted. I have never driven the boxter (only the 911 tt), but I know it is butt heavy and I can't imagine it is as easy to manage on over steer as the Z4. Also you sit further from the rear wheels, so you wont get the same sensational feeling as in a Z4 when the rear wheels loose grip. I agree that the boxter is probably more fun in everything that can be done with the DSC on, but that is off topic. So my point was that those 0-60 times that OP quoted do not instantly impress me because they do not tell me anything about how the car feels on over-steer.

Anyway, the car wont be sold here, so who am I to try and contribute

Yup, OP is quite finished with drop tops and their performance compromises.. Box checked.. fun stuff.. time for something more focused on all out performance next time

More than the acceleration stats, the lap time is what is really making me drool

now if only the C7 Z06 came in a hardtop vert :P

When I saw the C7 at E3, I have to say... I loved the way it looked. Amazing, definitely something to consider. I just hope they make the leases reasonable... as I do not like to buy cars (I've never even owned a single car for 2 years yet... longest being 22 months)

I tried to open the link a few times but no luck. Perhaps it has been blocked here in China haha!
Anyway I can almost guess what it is about. One of my foreign "friends" here was recently hired to do a presentation to some customers of a local Chinese company. He was to read a poorly translated script pretending to be the CEO of a fictive European company which was said to own the local Chinese company. In this way the local Chinese company would try to make it seem as if their products and services ware backed by European financing, management and expertise.

So if you ever watch a presentation of the C7 done by some German "chief engineer" you never heard of before, then you will know what to think!

I think the interior is "refined" just fine. This is certainly the best interior I have seen them come out with. They even have the electronic parking/emergency brake.

Yeah, the old interiors were...a little dated. This new car, however, is just amazing in every way.
