Buy Price: 51 000 = 68 256 US$ Yearly Insurance and Tax : 2400 = 3212 US$ Yearly Gasoline expenses: 1700 = 2275 US$ I still love it and would buy it over and over again. Iīd love to have the 35is though, but these are 70k = 94 000 US$. |

That is a low premium for insurance!
Is that because you are insuring other cars with the same company, or is automotive insurance just cheaper in general in Alabama? |

Original cost: $55,000 (with a trade-in, which I think was around $12,000 or thereabouts). Purchased new, delivered April 15th, 2010 although it is a 2011MY.
Insurance = $550 (6 months, stored the other six months and is covered under home insurance for fire, theft etc). Gas = roughly $900 for the six months, but depends whether I take the car up to the cottage (roughly 1,200km round trip) Plates etc = $175 for 2 years Maintenance = still free, although my 4 year warranty expires April 15th, 2014. I'm not too worried about anything happening after the warranty expires though. Dave

My 3 year rental for the 35i is going to cost
$21k rent (aka lease payments including tax) $1.2k insurance $7.5k fuel (20mpg, 10k mi/yr, $5/gallon) ~$2k tires ~$881/mo I drive a decent amount for work and get the ~$0.56/mi reimbursement, which I didn't factor into the above since we are just talking about cost EDIT: added in tires |

Doesn't really answer your question, but, I was getting my other car fixed at a shop after I got rear ended , and the owner was telling me how in New Jersey, if you own a business you qualify for a, wait for it.... $150 auto insurance.
Maybe Nick participates in a similar program, or he's been sleeping around a lot |

No at fault accidents or tickets, max possible discounts in CA for auto plus multi line discounts from having my home and umbrella policy all at geico.
EDIT: to be more clear, I reduced my increased liability limits on auto and used those dollars to get the broader umbrella policy. The premium for my auto policy went down (as a result of the decrease in limits) but the total insurance dollars I spend are unchanged. I bet if I added in my umbrella my insurance would be in line with expectations. Also, we all probably have differing deductibles and limits so insurance cost is a tough one to compare anyway Last edited by nicknaz; 06-20-2013 at 02:09 PM.. |

I feel extremely lucky on the costs of my Zed. I searched for over 18 months before purchasing my 09 35i fully loaded with 26K on the clock. All costs are US.
Purchase price $35,430 Insurance - $563 annually, year round, BUT based upon 4000 miles annually. 10% premium ($56 annually) bump for 10,000 miles annually and I have a 18 year perfect driving record. Fuel-$4.10 per gallon when used for what ever miles I drive. Maintenance- $0 to date as the car in under the OEM warranty until 6-30-13, just a few precious days away. Car included brand new tires, 2 brand new BMW 296 rear wheels, full BMW inspection and all needed services up to now.

In the US a fully loaded 35IS is 73K custom ordered and fresh from the dealer. I got my 2011 35IS for 48k. Insurance on the other hand is high due to the coverage at 3600 a year.

For insurance, The 1998 Z3 in FL was about $400 /year, and about $300 /year in Hawaii. The 2012 Z4 in Cali is closer to $1300 /year... |
