New DCT tranny for me!

I bought my 2009 Z4 35i in Feb 2013 with roughly 36k and after reviewing the service records I noticed that the transmission was in for service with the previous owner for a leak. After I bought the car I put it on my lift and looked it over thoroughly. I noticed that the transmission was still leaking and took it back into my BMW dealer. They fixed it and wiped everything clean and I looked it over again after about two months. I found that the tranny was still leaking and I took it back to my BMW dealer. They agreed that it was leaking from the same place as the previous repair and BMW suggested that the DCT should be replaced.

It is going to take about a week to get the transmission but I am very happy to get a new DCT in my Z4. My BMW dealer has been awesome with this car and other BMW cars that I have owned. They have never questioned any mod that I had on the cars and they have always fixed any problem that was under warranty.

I have to say that BMW and my dealership have always stood behind their product and they forever own me as a customer.

That's awesome I mean, it sucks that you even have to be going through this, but good thing you are mechanically adept and went to check the transmission periodically and that your BMW is stepping up and footing the bill. Good timing too, because I'd imagine an '09 car will be out of warranty very very soon, unless it's CPO'ed.

Do you have any power adders on your 35i currently?

It would be pretty amazing if you got the DCT warrantied on a car that the dealer know that bolt ons + chip

Good for you for new fresh DCT
Lost a bit of time but it is worth it.

Wow... even with the aftermarket intercooler and downpipe (both of which only exist for owners adding torque) they were cool with the DCT warranty.

That is AWESOME. Definitely seems like a great dealer.

My local dealer is awesome. They have done all kinds of warranty work on previous modded BMW's that I have owned. They actually do a lot of mod installs at their dealership, which seems to be unusual. Seem to be cool with it.

Congratz!
My 2009 was repaired twice due to leaking. I guess it is time to have them check if it has started leaking again.

Is a transmission leak something they would look for on a multi-point inspection? While my car is still very new and I'm not expecting any problems, but it would be good to keep an eye open for it, considering how it seems to not be an isolated case...

Would you be able to see the leak on the ground like you would an oil leak, or is it more like a loose gasket where it just gets wet. Unfortunately, no lift for me and not 100% mechanically adept.

In my case it was a very small leak and it never leaked through the black cover. The cover would have to be removed in order to see it.

Same here! I can provide pictures if you need, but I also posted some in my 2012 thread about DCT noises.

They'll always drop the undercar plastic pan for the inspection. Easy to see if there's oil about.

As many know.. mine was replaced at around 12000 miles due to some weird clutch-slipping like vibrations. The car has only 10000 miles on the new DCT while the rest of the car has 22000 miles. I didn't like them taking it all to pieces, but the new one is smooth as glass.

I sure am ready to get my car back. It has been at the dealership since June 12th and the transmission is supposed to show up from Germany tomorrow. They are telling me that I will get it back this Wed or Thur. I hope so because I am getting tired of driving this boring 528i.
