Electronic Ballast for HID Lamp

hello,

i recently posted a topic on here about someone smashing my front headlight and i needed to try and get a new one for cheap, i bit the bullet and just went to the stealers and paid £725 for a new light.

When changing it.. i have the front bumpers etc off got the old light out no problems, but then there is a silver box on the bottom of light which is the Electronic Ballast, not entirely sure what this is, i think its some sort of resistor to stop excess voltages or current?? :-s anyway this was soaking wet, filled with water.... does anyone know if this will still work? do i need a new one? if i fit it back anyway will it cause any more damage??

anyone any ideas about this sort of stuff??

thanks#

The ballast is the thing that runs the lamp, if it's damaged it simply won't work...it will not damage your new lamp.
However what would concern me is how it's got to be filled with water!! If it's exposed to the elements it should be IP rated (water proof), i would think that if it is water damaged you will need a new one, i'd check with the dealer.

i should have took a pic of the underside of it, i suppose it is water proof in a way, but it's because my headlight filled with water and then water ran in through the connections for the lamp. I'm just gonna go and try it with the new light... so you reckon if i plug in new light and it works all should be fine?? :-l
i've fell out with the dealers, dont really want to phone then was over there this morning arguing with them, lol looked up the part site and its £220 for new ballast! f**kers!!
